A wooden box

The mystery with the Wooden Box has been living on for quite some time. It moved into people's homes and lives 90 years ago in Hungary; the box using human speach, telling the latest news, enlightening people, educating them, sending different programmes, from soft, melancolic music in the nights, hihgly appreciated by lonely people. In other cases, it gathered families and friends, sitting around the box, listening and staring into a green eye, with an oscillating pupil. The Box linked people together by global communication.

The father of communication Tivadar Puskás, the Hungarian inventor of Telefonhírmondó (Telephone Harold) created the first media equipment in Budapest, using microphone for transmition to the general public.

The first ever news programme was sent in Ferruary 1893 by the company. It began its the first sentransmission with the following lines: „Üdvözöljük Budapest lakosságát. Üdvözöljük olyan szokatlan módon, amely páratlan az egész világon. Üdvözöljük az első várost, amelyből a Telefonhírmondó az egész világon győzedelmes útjára indul.” [We greet the people of Budapest. We greet them in an unusual way that is unique for the whole world. We greet the first city from which Telephone harold starts its world-conquering journey."]

The Terlephone Harold begun on a small scale with 500 subscribers in 1893, extending its programmes to include a wide range of programmes from cultural ones (music, theatre, etc.), through weather, Parliament news, legal news, to stock exchange, etc. In 1911 it joined the newly established Hungarian Radio (becoming Magyar Telefonhírmonó és Rádió Rt., later Magyar Rádió Rt, and in the 50s Magyar Rádió és Televízió  Vállalat [Hungarian Radio and Television Company]. During the 70 the two companies parted, establishing their own company formes. Today, radio has perhaps less importance, in the midth of all other communication fascilities, but there are still people who appreciate listening the the radio.

Hungarian Radio had a very alternate and tumbulent history, including hight points and low points in it 90 year old history. I cannot list all the events; it would take some space. But it is worth reaserching.
